Izat Farming located just out of Berwick-upon-Tweed is two farms which are generally arable, Sandy and his father John Izat made a commitment to farm in a sympathetic way many years ago and embarked on improving the ecology around the farm with ponds, tree planting, dry stone walls etc.. The fruits of their efforts are now clear to see with tree lined roads and many wild meadow areas around the estate. Now that solar electric is an affordable option the farm is trialing a 10kw system to see how it effects the electricity consumed on-site.
A 10 Kw system will produce 8,600 kwh per annum
Fits Payment 8500kwh x 37.8p (feed in tariff) = £3213.00
Sell Back 50% of 8500kwh x 3.1p = £131.75
Energy Savings 50% of 8500kwh x 13p = £552.50
Total Year 1 Benefit £3897.25
Indexed profit over 25 years based on £28,500 install £141,195.96
This can be as much as a 20% return on investment
The inverter used in this installation is an SMA tri-power inverter which is specific to a three phase supply, it enables a customer to install 3.3kw on to each of the three phases (10kw total) and stay in the network operators G83 parameters. This saves on costly G59 relays, modelling work and inspection work with the network operator.
Below is the real time screen shot from the display from an inverter taken on the 14th September 2011.

This is a close up of the screen on the SMA TL10 inverter used in the installation which went live on the 9th June 2011, as we can see the production meter is reading 3703kwh on 14th September 2011.
The income so far is:
Feed In Tariff 3703kwh @ 37.8p = £1399.73
Sell back 3703kwh x 50% x 3.1p = £57.39
Electric Savings 3703kwh x 50% x 13p = £240.69
Total Benefit over 3 months and a few days £1697.81
